The South Carolina National Bank / Wachovia / Wells Fargo, 415 Market Street: June 2022

The Wells Fargo branch at 415 Market Street in Cheraw closed in June. There was talk back in 2020 about Wells Fargo closing the Cheraw branch, and it is possible that the backlash Wells Fargo received for considering the elimination of this location right smack in the middle of prime COVID lockdown hysteria delayed their decision. I find the sign on the drive-thru window that reads, "We've moved to a nearby branch," to be amusing; I guess Wells Fargo can't say, "We closed your location," even though that is what they, in fact, did.

Up until the 1990s, this building served as a branch for The South Carolina National Bank, which had another location at 165 Market Street. Both locations had changed to Wachovias by the end of the 1990s, if memory serves me right, and according to this webpage, it does. In 2008, Wachovia was purchased by Wells Fargo. While Wells Fargo chose to keep the location at 415 Market Street, they decided not to use the location at 165 Market Street.

And yes, that was a random shotgun shell in the parking lot. If it is from an attempted bank robbery, then these guys were a bit late to the party.
