Cade Vision Center, 3341 Highway 9: 1998
The lion statues in front of the former Cade Vision Center in Cheraw are hard to miss seeing when driving by. Though I could never remember this location being for an optometrist, I seem to recall a psychic readings "business" using this building at one point...or maybe that was somewhere else nearby. The "Cade" in Cade Vision Center came from the name of the optometrist, Dr. Charles Steven Cadenhead.
The closing year of 1998 is certainly an educated guess at best. The business card taped to the window by the front door of Cade Vision Center shows an 803 phone number associcated with the business. The 803 area code covered the entire state of South Carolina until March 22, 1998, when 843 became the area code for here and the rest of the eastern portion of the state. I would think that Dr. Cadenhead would have printed out new business cards with the 843 area code in the phone number soon after, if Cade Vision Center was still in business after 1998.
Looking online, at one point or another, Dr. Cadenhead has had offices in Gaffney and York. Assuming that the GIS data for the address is up-to-date, the optometrist is currently located in York. I find it odd that he has not sold this property, since he clearly no longer lives in the area. It's also strange that there are still pairs of eyeglasses, posters, furniture, and other items in the building, as if you could drive by there tomorrow and find that Cade Vision Center is back in business. Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of rotten wood on the outside of the structure and a significant amount of overgrowth that would need to be addressed before this location could be used again.
