Pierce Grocery / Grandma's Kitchen / Lulu's Soulfood, 598 Highways 1 and 52: March 2020

Most recently, this was the location of Lulu's Soulfood, which had opened back in November of 2019. Like many other restaurants in the state, Lulu's Soulfood had to temporarily close back in March to meet the state's legal restrictions for addressing COVID-19. Given that there have not been any posts since March on their Facebook page, unfortunately, it seems that Lulu's Soulfood has not been able to reopen.

Behind the restaurant, I had noticed a sign for Grandma's Kitchen, which must have been the previous operation. Only being able to find an online Yellow Pages reference, I can only tell that Grandma's Kitchen did exist as a restaurant here at one point, though I cannot determine specifically when it was in business. Upon examining the Yellow Pages books that I have for 2019 and 2020, I can also say that Grandma's Kitchen does not appear to have been in business in 2019.

Many folks will remember this location being Pierce Grocery back in the day. Because I have no memories of visiting Pierce Grocery, I can only guess that it was a small grocery store with a limited inventory; however, I do recall Pierce Grocery selling fishing bait at one point. It looks like Pierce Grocery closed in the 2000s; otherwise, like any small business has made sure to do in the last decade, they would probably have had a Facebook page to establish an online presence.
