P & H Pharmacy / Long's P & H Pharmacy, 700 Chesterfield Highway: March 24, 2020

Long's P & H Pharmacy closed back in March along with all Long's Drugs locations after CVS bought all of the stores. P & H Pharmacy had been around for many years before becoming part of the Long's Drugs chain a few years ago. Up until the early 1990s, it was located where Pee Dee Outfitters is now and moved to its final location when its neighbor, the former Cheraw Family Medicine, relocated across from the hospital. As the sign says on the door, all prescriptions have been transferred to the local CVS Pharmacy.

I remember my family getting our prescriptions at P & H Pharmacy when I was a kid. That was likely because when any of us would go see Dr. Shaw or Dr. Joe at Cheraw Family Medicine, P & H was conveniently next door. Of course, it certainly helped that we always liked the pharmacist, Rhett, and knew him from church.

I believe that Wannamaker Drug and Harsey's Pharmacy at IGA are the only locally owned pharmacies left in Cheraw. I wonder how long it will be before they, too, get gobbled up by a national pharmacy chain.
