Express Money Service / National Finance Company, 810 Market Street: 2019
I came across this closing while taking pictures of the old Sonic. National Finance Company appears to be a regional payday loan chain with most locations being in North Carolina. The sign on the door mentions accounts being transferred to a World Finance in Cheraw, which must be an affiliate of National Finance Company, or maybe they are owned by the same parent company.
Although I can't nail down a particular date, not even to a month, the store only appears to have been closed for a few months so I have noted 2019 as the year this National Finance Company location closed. There is already a For Rent sign on the front window of the store, and it will be interesting to see how long it takes before another operation moves in. I'm going to wager it will be a while, not because I'm a pessimist but because I am a realist. After all, things move slowly around here.
This store is located in the C & J Properties strip mall, which is a relatively new strip mall compared to, say, Chesterfield Commons (blog entries coming soon). The sign mentions a Computer Solutions store, which appears to have been renamed The Solutions Store. The other name on the sign that catches my eye is Express Money Service, which was likely in the same store that National Finance Company used until recently. Apparently, this is an ideal location for a payday loan business. Who wants to bet that the next business here will be yet another payday loan business?
