The Shopper, 25 Chesterfield Highway: February 22, 2023
As reported in The Link (paywalled) earlier this year, The Chesterfield County News & Shopper, or The Shopper as most of us called it, ceased publication and went out of business. The Shopper was a free newspaper that mostly contained ads for local businesses, along with a handful of local news articles. It was printed weekly and tended to arrive in my mailbox in the middle of the week. That is to say, The Shopper was a weekly constant in the lives of the people of this county for many years.
The office for The Shopper was located at 25 Chesterfield Highway for most of its existence. Although I am having trouble finding the specific news article that I am thinking about, I seem to recall that the office was moved downtown, next to the Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, a month or two before closing, and I specifically remember that because I found it odd that they moved the office and soon proceeded to close. Come to think about it, that news article was likely in an issue of The Shopper, which would make sense.
